Abkhazia and Russia on the same phone number

MOSCOW - Russia said today that the secession of Georgia from Abkhazia region have the same international call phone number and Russia.

Moscow recognized the independence of breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia following last year's conflict with Georgia.

Head of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Abkhazia will start to use the same code as well as Russia (+7), but did not say when this will happen.

"Agreement was reached to Abkhazia remove phone code of Georgia and take over the Russian. Of course we will continue cooperation with international organizations to give away Abkhazia code," said Lavrov during a visit to the capital of Abkhazia Sukuma.

Georgia has condemned the action of Russia.

In a statement, the Georgian MFA said that Tbilisi asks UN to prevent "illegal actions of the Russian Federation."
