Chavez: Venezuela recognizes Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Venezuela today recognized the independence of the Georgian republic of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said President Hugo Chavez at the beginning of the meeting with Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow, there agency.

"Venezuela is now joined by recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. From now recognize the two republics," said Chavez in Medvedev's residence on the outskirts of Moscow.


Venezuela has also become the third country after Russia and Nicaragua, which has recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
Russian President thanked Chavez for such decisions.
"Thank you Hugo, you are given a series of serious and important statement," said Medvedev.
Russia and Nicaragua have recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia last year after the Russian-Georgian war in August.
