ALMA ATA - The fire in the center for quitting drugs in Alma Ata morning killed 38 people, announced the Kazakh Ministry for Emergency Situations.
The cause of the fire, which broke out at 5:30 local time, is not known.
"According to preliminary information, 38 people were killed in the fire," according to a statement of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, published on the website of the Ministry.
Rescuers managed to save 40 people - patients and staff, added the statement. Firefighters were this morning still trying to put out the fire, several hours after the outbreak.
Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov requested that the investigative commission investigate the causes of fire, said a spokesman for the Kazakhstan government's RIA Novosti.
