Recommendation for closure of schools in the epidemic appears

Closing schools when the appearance of new flu outbreak would be greatly slowed the spread of disease and health authorities provide valuable time to obtain sufficient quantities of drugs, recommended today in Geneva, World Health Organization (WHO).

"Although no one measure can not completely stop the spread of the disease, it is possible that it is significantly slowed, according to a recommendation by the WHO to prepare for its members and other countries.

The first of these measures is closing the school because the institutions showed that they played a significant role in transmitting infection, as well as in New York, for example, reported by Reuters.

Closing schools, under ideal conditions, could in the midst of a pandemic to reduce 30 to 50 percent of the demand for medical care, according to a WHO recommendation. However, if school facilities are closed too late, since the disease but is rather spread, the results of measures closing schools will be mediocre.
In addition, if a decision on closing schools is made, it should also prevent pupils and students continue to gather in other places.

Termination of school entails economic losses that are not visible at first glance. Namely, this measure would result in absence from work had an additional 16 percent of the workforce, in addition to the usual absence of people because of illness, the WHO said in a recommendation.
Closing of school facilities has a paradoxical consequence. At one time the demand by health care facilities at the peak of an epidemic, as it disturbs other provision of primary health care, because the medical staff has a lot of parents with school children.
According to WHO, up to now by the new flu in the world died around 3,000 people.
