More rights in the Russian military abroad

Russian President Dmitrij Medvedev presented the draft law that expanded the legal basis for the deployment of Russian forces abroad, stated the Kremlin.

Moscow Kremlin is stated that the Russian president Dmitrij Medvedev presented a draft law that expanded the legal basis for the deployment of Russian forces abroad.

According to the draft law which was delivered to the State Dumi, the Russian army to intervene abroad in the event of attacks on Russian forces, or refused to "aggression against another country" and "defended Russian citizens abroad", says from the Kremlin.

The draft law provides that the President may order the sending of forces abroad provided to maritime trade and fight against pirates.

Russian military ships already patrolling waters of Somalia, where pirate attacks are frequent. Law should be found before the Russian parliament in September, immediately after the summer break.

Medvedev said Russian leaders of political parties that last year's war with Georgia demonstrated that the new law is needed which will extend the rules on the deployment of forces.

Russian Defense Minister Anatolij Serđukov said that many countries send forces abroad to protect its citizens.

"Many countries believe its possible to send armed forces abroad to protect its citizens. Furthermore, it is a way to guarantee the respect of obligations of the state to its citizens," he added Serđukov, transmit RIA Novosti.

Serđukov added that the draft law calls for "establishing a legal mechanism that will allow the supreme commander oružnih forces to quickly send the Russian military units abroad in order to protect the interests of Russia and its citizens."

Serđukov said that the new law all the more necessary, if it is in the form of last year's war of Russia and Georgia in South Ossetia.
